Dedicated to Funding Research
to Find A Cure

Dr. Joel Warren and Theresa Castro

Our History

A Legacy of Hope

Our history began with Dr. Joel Warren and his request for $250,000 for cancer research. He approached Theresa Castro, who was inspired to create an organization for funding and research. With Castro at the helm, one hundred of her friends pledged $2,500 and joined the Royal Dames mission. Together, they created the 501(c)(3) non-profit: the Royal Dames of Cancer Research, Inc.

Today, the Royal Dames support the ground-breaking work being done at the Rumabaugh-Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research, now located at Nova Southeastern University. We have come far, but with your help we can go the distance to find a cure.

The Royal Dames’ Mission

It is our fundamental belief that mankind is not destined to die of cancer. To this end, the Royal Dames are dedicated to funding research to find a cure.

“Dear Royal Dames and Supporters"

Curing cancer would be a lot simpler if it were one single disease. Unfortunately, there are over 100 different types of cancer. Imagine sending in one soldier to fight a battalion of 100 soldiers. Clearly, you can see who would win that battle.

The only way to win this fight for our lives is to divide and conquer. At the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research (RGI), they have divided their time and resources to conquer certain types of cancers.

The patented F-16 (RD-1) molecule is one of the most potent compounds in the RGI arsenal to combat breast cancer cells. The patented JFD molecule is also designed to treat breast, ovarian, prostate, lung and colorectal cancers. It cuts off cancer cells’ blood supply, depriving them of nutrients and oxygen. F16 (RD-1) is also showing great promise in treating Glioblastoma, one of the deadliest forms of brain cancer. It is more potent and less toxic in destroying these rogue cells than an FDA-approved drug called Sutent.

The Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute is located on Nova Southeastern University’s main campus in Davie, Florida. It is housed in a state-of-the-art 215,000-square-foot facility aptly named the Center for Collaborative Research. The RGI sincerely believes that cooperative collaboration is the only way to combat cancer and emerge a winner.

The Royal Dames are incredibly proud of the millions of dollars they have donated to research over the years. As president of this organization, it has been a privilege to volunteer alongside some very dedicated women committed to finding a cure. There is a growing excitement and optimism that we are teetering on the brink of some significant cancer breakthroughs. We cannot help but feel that while the complexities of a cure are colossal, the battle is beginning to turn in our favor.

Governance

The Foundation Of Excellence

We are a community of volunteers. Ever since our founding over fifty years ago, all of our proceeds have gone to cancer research.

The Royal Dames maintains its mission to eradicate cancer. As of today, millions of dollars have been raised to encourage and aid individuals fighting the battle with cancer. Our funds have also gone toward enriching and supporting educational programs and critical cancer research at the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute.
