Spring Luncheon ~ 2015

The Royal Dames of Cancer Research Celebrate La Dolce Vita at Thasos with a Bloomingdale’s Beauty Extravaganza and Confectionaires Extraordinaire

The Royal Dames of Cancer Research kicked-off spring celebrating the sweet life at an unprecedented luncheon hosted by Thasos in Fort Lauderdale.

Co-chairs Merri Grace McLeroy and Nancy Westin, along with Honorary Chair Joey Stotsky and auction chair Sharron Navarro-Hadley welcomed 120 guests to experience the first event of its kind. The sold-out luncheon raised in excess of $10,000 for the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute for Cancer Research at Nova Southeastern University.

Bloomingdale’s Boca Raton provided a Fragrance Boutique and Beauty Boutique showcasing and demonstrating the season’s newest and most luxurious skin care and cosmetics and beauty VIPs were on hand to answer questions and give advice. VIPs included Dr. Lisa Learn, cosmetic and reconstructive surgeon; Dr. Pat Riley, founder of Clientele Cosmetics; Dr. Nia Smyrniotis of Miami Stem Cell Treatment Center; Joyful Gonzalez representing Dr. Jill Waibel of Miami Dermatology and Laser Institute; and New You co-editors Ruchel Louis-Coetzee and Dr. Sharon McQuillan.

To make the event even sweeter, table hostesses presented extraordinary confectionary centerpieces, most donated by their favorite bakers. Sweeter Days won the confectionaire presentation contest with a multi-level floral tree house for Julie Strauch. Other delightfully creative confections were provided by Chartwells for NSU, Dominique’s Couture Cakes for June Miller, Elisa’s Bakery at Arturo’s Italian Restaurant for Nuccia McCormick, Heavenly Sweet Addictions for Lorraine Thomas and for the Chairs’ table, Historic Needham Estate for Sandy Romanovitz, Joey Stotsky, L’Hermitage for Jane Toney, Shannon Brooks for her table with mom Sharon Gustafson and sister Susan Devlin, and We Take the Cake for Carol Harrison.

The event was replete with Sophia Mylona and her staff at Thasos providing a wonderful cocktail and luncheon, Fred Allen of A One Man Band who donated his musical talents on guitar and Minuteman Press of Pompano for underwriting all printing for the event.
